Bauchi Government Dismisses Claims of Governor Bala Mohammed’s Alleged Planned Defection as “Fabricated Lies”

From Paul Orude Bauchi
The Bauchi State Government has firmly dismissed circulating claims that Governor Bala Mohammed is considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), branding the speculation as unfounded and misleading.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the government responded to comments attributed to the PRP’s state Publicity Secretary, who suggested that Governor Mohammed would not be accepted into the party.
Gidado described the claim as nothing more than an attempt by “publicity hunters” to attract attention, noting that such rumours carry no weight but must be addressed to prevent the public from mistaking silence for truth.
According to the statement, Governor Mohammed has never entertained the idea of dumping the PDP or shown interest in joining any other political platform. “At no point has Governor Bala Mohammed considered leaving the PDP, nor has he initiated discussions with any political party, including the PRP,” Gidado affirmed.
The government further underscored the governor’s contributions to stabilizing the PDP amid what it described as orchestrated attempts by anti-democratic actors to weaken opposition politics and steer the country toward a one-party system.
In a pointed response to the PRP, the statement recalled Governor Mohammed’s consistent electoral victories over the party in previous polls and questioned its claim to progressive ideals. It defended the governor’s reforms in traditional institutions and decentralization efforts as part of his commitment to inclusive governance and community empowerment.
Although the statement reiterated the governor’s steadfast loyalty to the PDP, it acknowledged that, like any Nigerian, he retains the right to reconsider his political direction if the need ever arises.
Meanwhile, the government urged citizens not to be misled by individuals it described as “perpetual critics” who attempt to undermine the state’s ongoing progress in infrastructure, rural transformation, urban renewal, and tourism.
The statement concluded by assuring residents that Governor Bala Mohammed remains focused on advancing Bauchi State’s development agenda, regardless of internal party issues or other distractions.
