Sheikh Dahiru: Zamfara Governor Pays Condolence Visit to Bauchi

From Paul Orude Bauchi
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State on Saturday paid a heartfelt condolence visit to his Bauchi State counterpart, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, at the Government House, Bauchi, following the death of the revered Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
Governor Lawal, who arrived in the company of his Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Principal Private Secretary (PPS), and other top government officials, described the late scholar as a monumental figure whose passing was a great loss to the Muslim community, Bauchi State, and Nigeria at large.
He noted that although he was out of the country on an official assignment in Morocco when the cleric passed on, he immediately dispatched a government delegation to represent Zamfara State, a gesture confirmed by the family of the late scholar.
“Even though I sent a whole delegation to represent Zamfara State, I still felt it was important to be here physically to commiserate with His Excellency, the people of Bauchi State, and the family of the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi,” the governor said.
“I pray for the repose of his soul, and I appreciate the governor for the warm reception.”
In his response, Governor Bala Mohammed expressed delight over the visit, describing Governor Lawal as a visionary leader whose commitment to good governance has transformed Zamfara State and earned him admiration across the North and beyond.
“You are an organised person, and if anyone wants to see good governance and excellence, they need to look at Dauda,” Governor Mohammed said.
“I admire you greatly because of what you do, giving back to society through service, infrastructure, and care, even with limited resources. You have changed the trajectory of governance in your state and set an example in the North West and northern Nigeria.”
Governor Mohammed acknowledged the strong ties between the two states, strengthened over the years through the spiritual leadership of the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, whom he described as a unifying figure.
“I know many sheikhs and ulamas, including members of the Tijanniyya in Zamfara, who were connected to me through the late Sheikh Dahiru,” he added.
“Your decision to visit despite sending a delegation reflects true friendship and affinity.”
Governor Bala also praised his colleague’s efforts in tackling insecurity and driving development in Zamfara State, expressing confidence in his success as he seeks a second term in office.
“We know the battles you are fighting, insecurity and development, and we are proud of you. We are praying for you as you go for your second term, come rain or sunshine,” he said.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the late scholar and for God to grant his family, the Tijanniya community, and the entire Muslim Ummah the fortitude to bear the loss.
The visit further reaffirmed the cordial relationship between the governments of Zamfara and Bauchi States, anchored on shared values of leadership, faith, and unity.
