Governor Bala Has Transformed Yankari Transport Corporation – GM

By Umar Usman Duguri
As the 2025 year draws to a close, ministries, departments, and agencies across Bauchi State are presenting scorecards of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s achievements.
Among them is the Yankari Transport Corporation, which, under the leadership of its General Manager, Engineer Babaji Isa Yunusa, has become a shining example of the governor’s impact on the state’s transport sector.
The corporation is a key reference point for the numerous awards the governor has received recently.
Engineer Babaji began by acknowledging the governor’s firm leadership and commitment to implementing the original blueprint for modernizing Bauchi State.
He explained that the transport corporation has keyed into this vision.
“One of the governor’s earliest interventions was the total overhaul of the corporation’s
operations to ensure efficiency,” he said.
This included appointing competent leadership, a move that, according to Babaji, significantly transformed the corporation and restored effectiveness to its services.
Among the reforms was a renewed emphasis on professionalism.
All staff were reminded to strictly adhere to their responsibilities to guarantee optimal service delivery.
The management also carried out comprehensive furnishing of the corporation’s facilities to complement the new buses purchased by the governor, easing passenger hardship and ensuring comfortable travel.
These efforts, Babaji noted, are the reason Yankari Transport Express now provides high-quality and reliable services.
He further revealed that the corporation has continued to benefit from the government’s timely approvals and support.
“Among our key goals is the establishment of a dispensary center to provide first-aid services to passengers and staff in case of emergencies,” he said, adding that plans are underway to expand this service to surrounding communities.
Every relevant office, he added, has also been fully furnished to promote a serene and productive working environment, with television sets installed to support the staff who often work long hours.
Additionally, an abandoned hall has been renovated into a modern facility suitable for seminars, meetings, and other important events — a strategic effort to boost revenue generation.
In his remarks, the GM disclosed that all forms of financial leakages and corrupt practices have been blocked through innovative internal control measures.
Grounded buses have been repaired, and plans are in progress to purchase brand-new Peugeot 406 vehicles for emergencies and VIP luxury services.
“We even recovered a stolen vehicle from corrupt former staff members who attempted to divert government’s property,” he stated.
He added that the corporation’s booking office, originally established during the tenure of Bauchi’s first civilian governor, the late Tatari Ali, has been completely renovated for the first time in decades.
The long-abandoned 13KVA generator has also been repaired to provide backup power.
Passenger lodges have been upgraded to ensure comfort and safety, while several long-abandoned containers within the premises, previously used for illegal activities, have been cleared.
Small-scale business operators within the motor park were carefully screened to restore order and guarantee security.
To further sanitize the corporation, trained security personnel have been deployed to align with the governor’s broader vision of protecting lives and property across the state, particularly within motor parks.
Engineer Babaji concluded by commending Governor Bala Mohammed for granting the corporation operational independence, which has enabled it to excel.
Today, Yankari Transport Corporation has expanded its routes to all 36 states of the federation, using modern branded vehicles and ensuring prompt payment of workers’ salaries and entitlements.
