A renowned islamic preacher, Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka, chairman of the Qur’anic Believers Harmony for Peace Initiative (QBHI), has called on Nigerians to prioritise peace, tolerance, and cooperation.
Speaking during a visit to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kano State Chapter office on Friday, Sheikh Masussuka emphasised that Nigeria’s diversity is a blessing, not a curse.
“We are not here as Muslims or Christians, but as Nigerians bound by one destiny. A destiny that can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance, and unity”, he said.
The Muslim preacher reminisced about the peaceful coexistence of Muslims and Christians in the 1970s, where they lived side by side, celebrated together, and protected one another, lamenting how that bond of unity has been eroded by mistrust and intolerance
.
Masussuka extended a hand of peace and friendship to Christians, emphasising that Islam is a religion of peace.
He urged Nigerians to revive the spirit of unity and cooperation, and called on governments to prioritise economic development, job creation, and industrial revival to empower the youth, thereby addressing insecurity.
Responding, Apostle Adeniyi Gideon Ogunbanwo, Secretary of the
Christian Association of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter, praised the Islamic cleric’s historic visit to CAN office.
Ogunbanwo said it was the first by a Muslim preacher, and re-echoed the call for renewed unity and love between Muslims and Christians, free from discrimination.
