By Najib Sani
The old students of the Federal Government College (FGC) Azare, Bauchi State, class of 2005 have renovated a block of two classrooms at their alma mater, as part of their historic 20-year reunion celebrations.
The reunion, themed “Celebrating 20 Years: Reconnecting Old Bonds for Personal and Professional Growth,” brought together approximately 60 alumni who had maintained little physical contact over the years.
During the event, Dr Habib Adamu, Head Boy of the Class of 2005, formally handed over the renovated two-classroom block to the school management.
He said the gesture demonstrates the class’s commitment to giving back to their alma mater and supporting the education of future generations.
“The renovation is our contribution to the school’s infrastructure, and it is expected to benefit the students and teachers of FGC Azare”, he said.
A former teacher in the school, Malam Ahmed Abdulkadir, who represented the current principal, expressed gratitude for the class’s renovation of a block of two classrooms.
Another former teacher, Mrs Fidelia Jeremiah Dakum, who was a keynote speaker at the event, urged the class to leverage their shared history for greater impact and share expertise and build collaborations that drive progress of not only the school but Azare, Bauchi State and Nigeria at large.
“I have no doubt that your diversity, discipline, and shared history are powerful tools to shape Nigeria’s future. As such, you must be mindful of one another to help and carry everyone along”, she said.
Teachers; Malam Abdulaziz Kado, Mr Innocent Anyanwu, and others present delivered heartfelt goodwill messages, praying for abundant blessings in return for honouring them.
Our correspondent reports that the weekend of October 24–26, 2025, brimmed with excitement, warm hugs, nostalgic reflections, and poignant moments as the Federal Government College (FGC) Azare Class of 2005 held its first-ever reunion.
Under the theme “Celebrating 20 Years: Reconnecting Old Bonds for Personal and Professional Growth,” approximately 60 alumni, now accomplished men and women gathered in Azare to rekindle friendships forged as classmates from September 1999 to July 2005.
Separated for two decades by the demands of higher education, family life, and diverse careers, the group had maintained little physical contact. Yet the longing to reunite was palpable.
“Alas, a reunion weekend was just the way to go,” remarked ,Nura Aliyu Danmaraya capturing the collective sentiment.
The three-day event featured a school visit, condolence calls to families of departed classmates residing in Azare, and a grand dinner on Saturday evening.
Special guests included the alumni’s former teachers from FGC Azare, who were honoured for their enduring impact.
Excitement peaked when the Class of 2005 spontaneously formed a parade group and joined a march-past organised in their honour, marching gallantly to thunderous applause.
During the school visit, Class of 2005 Head Boy Dr Habib Adamu, now a surgeon at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, addressed current students with passion.
He shared his journey and those of his classmates, emphasising that greater achievements were within reach.
“It is possible for you all to achieve even more than any of us have today,” he declared.
Chairperson of the Central Planning Committee, Mr. Kabrang Nayako, expressed profound gratitude to his classmates for the opportunity to serve.
“The true spirit of Pro Unitate has been displayed from the first day the reunion movement began. I couldn’t be more proud of any other group of individuals for pulling this off”, he said.
The reunion not only celebrated two decades of growth but also reaffirmed the unbreakable bonds of the remarkable Class of 2005, leaving a lasting legacy not just at their alma mater but also at the hearts of her former teachers.
