…Warns against politising the new laws or inciting divisions

From Paul Orude, Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has assented to two laws passed by the State Assembly  thereby paving the way for the creation of 13 new emirates and the eagerly  awaited Zaar Chiefdom.

The two laws are the Bauchi State Chieftaincy (Appointment andDeposition) Law &other Matter Related thereto, 2025; and the Zaar Chiefdom Law, 2025.

The governor disclosed this on Tuesday at the EXCO Chamber of Government House after assenting to the llaws  earlier submitted the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman.

The governor disclosed that the newly created emirates are:
Bura (headquarters at Bura), Dambam (Dambam), Darazo (Darazo), Duguri (Yuli), Gamawa (Gamawa), Giade (Giade), Toro (Toro), Warji (Katanga Warji), Ari (Gadan-Maiwa), Jamma’a (Nabordo), Lame (Gumau), Bununu (Bununu), Lere (Lere), and Zaar (Mhrim).

He directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, in collaboration with the Secretary to the State Government, to immediately gazette and distribute copies of the laws establishing the new emirates, chiefdoms, and districts to the public and security agencies.

“Let me use this opportunity to issue a clear and firm warning: this administration will not tolerate any attempt to undermine, obstruct, or politicise the implementation of these laws,” he warned.

“Any person or group found inciting divisions, rancour, or spreading misinformation, or attempting to disrupt peace, will face the full consequences of the law.

“The law enforcement agencies represented here today are fully empowered to act decisively to maintain peace and order.

“Furthermore, any government official or leader who acts contrary to the spirit of this reform or engages in conduct capable of undermining this objective will face appropriate disciplinary action.”

The governor emphasised that his decision to create the new emirates, chiefdom, and districts was guided by the fear of God and accountability, adding that the exercise was undertaken with humility, not cowardice.

He explained that the report of the Hamza Koshe Akuyam Committee on the creation of emirates, chiefdoms, and districts in the state, which was submitted to the governor and subsequently to the State Assembly, laid the foundation for the development.

“It is more than an end; it is the beginning of a process,” Mohammed stated.

Earlier, the Speaker of the State Assembly, Abubakar Y. Suleiman, expressed gratitude to the governor for assenting to the laws, saying it demonstrated his steadfast leadership and commitment to the people’s will.

Suleiman also praised the people of the state for their robust engagement, noting that their input provided the framework for the creation of additional emirates, districts, and chiefdoms.

He acknowledged that the creation of new emirates is a sensitive issue but stressed that the initiative is designed to bring government and traditional leadership closer to the people.

“The law provides for appointment and deposition to ensure transparency and due process,” the Speaker stated.

“It also provides guidelines for the maintenance of traditional institutions.”

The Speaker added that public support for the creation of the new emirates reaffirmed the people’s endorsement and commended the governor for his bold step
