Bauchi Approves Six Months Maternity Leave, N1.5 Billion for Joint Task Force Base in Alkaleri

Bauchi State Government has approved the elongation of maternal leave from four months to six months.

The Head of service, Barrister Mohammed Sani Umar, disclosed this on Monday night while briefing journalists at the end of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Bala Mohammed.

“By implications, lactating mothers from the day of delivery will be off duty for six months and even in returning in the next six months she will also have the privilege of having some hours off her duty,” the HoS stated.

Umar disclosed that the council has approved that public service regulations 1122 and 1126 respectively be amended and establishment circular be issued to that effect. 

“The ministry of health and social well has also been directed to ensure that in collaboration with relevant agencies should ensure that conducive workplace is provided for any lactating mother which might even include creches which the state government by God’s grace will provide in due course,” he added.

In the same vein, the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Kawule, revealed that SEC approved over N1.5 billion to build a joint task force base in Mansur Alkaleri Local Government Area Bauchi. 

“The project comprises 19 components with everything you can think to build a joint task,” he stated, adding that due process was followed. 

“The project is for the state government to deliver its responsibility to protect lives and properties of the people in that axis”

Kawule disclosed that following SEC approval earlier, N1.2 billion was spent to upgrade, remodel  and furnish former Wikki Hotel, now renamed VIP Suites 

Similarly  he disclosed that council granted approval for installation of additional 21 components at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in the state capital. 

He believed that  the ICC will generate or create more opportunities for residents of the state and provide a suitable atmosphere  for those visiting 

Meanwhile, Commissioner for Works and Transport, Professor Titus Ketkukah, disclosed that the SEC has approved 30 vehicles – 25 buses and five 406 salon cars to help provide social services. 

“The vehicles will be used to augment the number of vehicles that we have all over the country because of the need to provide more social services to the people in towns around our institution and villages,” he stated.

Ketkukah disclosed that the state-owned transport company, Yankari Corporation had purchased 30 buses under higher purchased fully paid in August 2024.
