SBU Vanguard Debunks Fake Video Alleging Senator Shehu Buba Umar’s Link to Terrorists

From Paul Orude Bauchi
The Bauchi State chapter of the SBU Vanguard has strongly refuted a video circulating on social media which falsely accuses Senator Shehu Buba Umar of supporting and leading terrorist groups.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Director General of the SBU Vanguard, Engr. Ishaq S. Dabo, described the video as “fabricated, malicious, and politically motivated,” stressing that it was aimed at tarnishing Senator Umar’s reputation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Senator Shehu Buba Umar has always stood for peace and dialogue. Even before his election to the Senate, he worked with respected Islamic clerics and community leaders in government-led negotiations that yielded positive results in restoring peace to affected communities,” the statement read.
The group accused “irresponsible political actors” of masterminding the smear campaign out of fear of Senator Umar’s growing popularity, while urging the public not to amplify unverified material.
“We call on media organizations and social media platforms to investigate and remove the fake video and any related content that violates their terms of service,” the statement added, warning that legal action would be taken against those behind the false claims.
Quoting Senator Umar directly, the statement reaffirmed his commitment to peace and development.
“I have always stood for peace and the wellbeing of our people. I reject these baseless attacks and will continue my work for the people of Bauchi South. I urge everyone to verify information before sharing it and to remain focused on the issues that matter to our communities.”
The Vanguard further urged supporters to remain calm, united, and committed to the senator’s vision of good governance, peace, and development in Bauchi State.
