The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended Gombe State University (GSU) acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, for incorporating students into the various committees in the university.

National president of the association, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, made the commendation on Thursday when he alongside his national executives paid a courtesy visit to Gombe State University (GSU) in continuation of his official tour of institutions in the North East.

He noted that such inclusion reflects recognition of students as critical stakeholders in the academic community both locally and internationally.

He emphasised that this gesture has elevated the reputation of the University and strengthened trust between management and students.

The NANS leadership equally applauded the university management for its transparency in handling the NELFUND students’ loan processes, describing this as a demonstration of accountability and prioritisation of students’ welfare.

The NANS president longside the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) president of GSU, presented a letter of commendation and an award of excellence to the Acting Vice-Chancellor for his inclusiveness, commitment to infrastructural development, academic excellence, and dedication to students’ welfare.

They also expressed gratitude to the Visitor to the University, Governor Inuwa Yahaya, and to the Chancellor of the University, Emir of Gombe Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, for their continued contributions to the growth of the institution.

During the visit, the delegation toured the university’s facilities and commended the acting Vice-Chancellor, for his exemplary leadership and described Gombe State university as one of the most beautiful and outstanding institutions in the North-East region.

Responding, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yauta, thanked the NANS leadership for the visit, their commendations, and their show of solidarity.

He highlighted the concerns raised by the NANS president regarding hostels and the demand for the establishment of a Students’ Union Government (SUG) in the University.

Yauta assured them of management’s determination to address all issues comprehensively.

He further noted that once a formal request is received, management would look into consideration of establishing an SUG in the university, stressing that students’ voices would continue to remain central in decision-making.
