No fewer than 900 female students of the Bauchi State owned Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) have benefited from soft Skills and Employability training.

The training, organised by the Entrepreneurship Development Centre of  SAZU, in collaboration with Jobberman and Giwo Agro, with funding from Master Card Foundation, was conducted at the Yuli and Gadau campuses of the university.

The female students were selected from 300 and 400 levels respectively of different departments to participate in the training.

Metoric Post learnt that the training was designed to empower and prepare their minds towards approaching the real life as they are about to exit the university’s life.

The Vice Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, Professor Fatimah Tahir while addressing the participants,  said  getting skills in addition to a degree would equip the beneficiaries to fit into the fast changing world.

“It is not enough for you to graduate without having what we call extra-value attached to it,” she said.

“Giving you a skill to communicate for example in public, is a skill that will help you in life.

Represented by the Director, Entrepreneurship Development Centre Dr. Salisu Ibrahim Waziri, the VC emphasized that it is important for them to have different types of skills to be able to succeed in life.

The VC however charged the participants to utilize the golden opportunity as being provided by the Jobberman and Giwa Agro under the Master Card, to train the female students free of charge.

Tahir said the knowledge gained from the training would have a generational effect not only on the students, but also to the society in general, considering the saying that educating a woman is educating the society.

The soft skills training focused on public speaking technique, CV writing, Grant proposal writing, business proposal skills, ICT amongst others, which is believed to be beneficial to the female students who are about to exit the university.

In his remarks, Lead Consultant, Giwa Agro Malam Ibrahim Aminu Tahir, said the training, which is attached to employability will equip the participants with the necessary know-how on how to easily get job after graduation.

He reaffirmed their commitment towards partnership with the university’s management for continuous support to ensure academic excellence.

600 female students were nominated from Gadau Campus while 300 were selected from Yuli Campus, both of 300 and 400 levels for the training.

Similar training is also expected to be conducted for the Misau campus.
