Umar Usman Duguri
The Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Management, SEMA, Alhaji Haruna Mai Riga, has commended Governor Alhaji Umar Namadi for the support given to victims of the recent unfortunate PMS fire accident at Majiya town.
It will be recalled that 209 people lost their lives in the incident, out of which 38 are on admission and 61 have been discharged.
No fewer than 167 were seriously injured and received treatment in various hospitals within and outside the State.
Mai Riga made the commendation shortly after a fact-finding committee headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hafiz Inuwa (Rtd) presented its report to Governor Namadi, penultimate week.
He described Namadi’s administration as the best in terms of addressing the plight of the people of the State since being elected as governor.
“We have been providing timely responses and support to victims of flood and other disasters over the years and most importantly the inferno that claimed lives and properties worth millions of naira,” Mairiga said.
“Throughout my public and private life, I have never seen such a committed and workaholic leader like His Excellency Governor Umar Namadi.
“He doesn’t waste in giving us necessary support when it comes to serving the people day in day out which marks the remarkable awards of Humanitarian Governor of the Year for serving the humanity selflessly”
“So far, on directives of his excellency, we have positively touched lives of thousands of people through multiple palliatives which include distribution of over 12,000 bags of rice to flood victims, mats, relief materials just to mention a few”
Mai Riga applauded the federal government for the numerous support as well as donor agencies and the state Government in joint efforts to share about 4,700 trucks of food stuff which was shared to victims of disasters.
“Governor Namadi has succeeded in reducing poverty and hunger in Jigawa to the lowest ebb,” the SEMA boss stated.
“I must commend Governor Namadi on the support and assistance rendered to displaced persons after evacuation of 14000 victims camped inside schools and public buildings,” he stated.
“Of course selected places were provided to provide succor to the people.
“We pray to God to continue to guide the governor for making the difference for the betterment of the people”
