From Our Editor
No fewer than 61 persons have been killed while 234 were injured in various road crashes that occurred in Bauchi State, from January to November, 2023.
Official figures obtained by our correspondent from the state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Wednesday, showed that 413 persons were involved in road crashes in the year under review.
The Sector Commander, Patrick Ikaba, in an interaction with our correspondent, disclosed that the rate of crashes had declined significantly due to several preventive measures put in place by the command.
Ikaba said the command established 15 traffic control points in the state capital for a free flow of traffic adding that the efforts had addressed gridlock.
He said the command has a good working relationship with the state government, transport Union workers, and other sister agencies which led to several sensitization and awareness campaigns to members of the public.
He said the command has an ambulance which is readily on standby to give prompt attention to reported of crashes.
The Sector Commander disclosed that the state command has a new ambulance at Jamm’are local government area which renders services on the Kano-Maiduguri road to attend to reported crash cases.
“We also have ambulance points at Bichi and Toro especially for attending to road crash cases and attending to humanitarian services to the communities,” he disclosed.
“Where there are heath emergency or challenges we are usually called upon to convey such victims to hospital at no cost”
Ikaba said the Corps has a clinic at the Zonal Office which gives first aid to both staff and members of the public.
“From our regular presence and ambulances, road crashes have reduced drastically in the state,” the corps commander, said.
