Foundation Sensitises Gombe Village Youths On Entrepreneurship
BY NAJIB SANI ADAMU
A community based organisation in Lawanti village of Akko local government area of Gombe State known as “Lawanti Community Development Foundation” has organised sensitisation meeting for selected youths and girls in the village on the need to embrace entrepreneurship for self-reliance.
The sensitisation which was supported by a youth advocate from the local government Sa’idu Bello Sarkiwa was held at Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Lawanti.
Speaking during the event, the convener Sa’idu Bello Sarkiwa explained that the orientation was organised to encourage the residents of the community to embrace education and skills.
He noted that unemployment is prevalent in the country and government cannot provide jobs to all, ‘hence the need for the youths to be enlightened on adopting entrepreneurship and other skills as a way of addressing unemployment’.
Also speaking, a former Statistician General of Gombe State Mohammed Gidado who is a member board of trustees of the foundation noted that although rural dwellers normally marry early, they should not allow marriage to be a barrier to their education.
“Don’t prioritise marriage over education. You can be married and still go to school, engage in occupation for your self development. Do not say because you are married, you cannot go to school. Or you priorise getting marriage over education because education is the bedrock of every meaningful development.”, he advised the youths.
