2024 budget: Bauchi allocates 16 percent for education
From Paul Orude Bauchi
Bauchi State Government has allocated the sum of N48 billion to the education sector, translating to 16 percent of the 300.2 billion 2024 Appropriation Bill presented to the State House of Assembly.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, disclosed this when he gave a breakdown of the budget on Saturday.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) recommends 26 percent state budgetary allocation to education.
It will be recalled that while presenting the budget, Governor Bala Mohammed disclosed that N178.8 billion, representing 59.6 percent, was earmarked as capital project while N121.3 representing 40.5 percent of the budget was for recurrent expenditure.
Governor Mohammed assured that the proposals, tagged “budget of consolidation and Renewed focus”, would be fully implemented.
Hammayo said between the ministry of Education, the ministry for Higher Education, and the agencies had a total allocation of N48 billion which translate to N16.1.
“The allocation this time around is quite high,” the commissioner, said.
“We have allocation to education over the years in the region of about 12 percent at best.
“Last year we had about 13 percent and this year we are doing 16.1
“If you consider the total size of the budget (300.2 billion) 16 percent, which is 16.1 billion is unprecedented”
