The Wailo community in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for the conduct of free medical treatment in the area.

The Village Head of the community, Malam Iliyasu Musa made the commendation on behalf of the community in Wailo on Wednesday, during the flag-off of a one-day medical outreach to the people of the community by NYSC.

Musa said that the gesture would significantly address health challenges of the people in the area.

“I would like to appreciate the coming of this programme into our community because this is the first time I will be seeing the management of the NYSC in our community with this kind of life saving programme.

“We appreciate it because this NYSC has been here for over 20 years but nothing like this has been done for the community as its host community.

“But the state Coordinator has brought this intervention here today and you are highly appreciated,” said the Village Head.

Also speaking, Hon. Dayyabu Ladan, Member, representing Ganjuwa East at the State House of Assembly, said that the programme would go a long way in assisting their people from the villages to have access to healthcare services which they may not have had access to.

Represented by one of his Aids, Mr Suleiman Mato, Ladan said “I heard the state Coordinator saying that there are different kinds of drugs to be administered to the patients.

“And in a situation where the sickness has gone beyond the outreach, it would be referred to either the state Specialist or Teaching hospital.

“We are highly grateful for this kind gesture”.

In her speech, the state Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, explained that the outreach was initiated under the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).

According to her, the programme is designed to enhance access to quality healthcare service delivery in hard to reach and rural communities across the country.

She listed some of the ailments to be treated to include malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhea, cholera, and diabetes, among others.

Yakubu, who stated that the outreach is open to as many people as possible in the community, added that the NYSC medical team was highly prepared for the exercise.

“We urge all members of this community to avail themselves in order to benefit.

“Let me use this medium to thank the Director General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Yushau Ahmed who graciously approved the execution of this programme for the benefit of the wailo community,” she said.
