Rotary Trains Gombe Health Officers On Maternal Deaths Electronic Data Management

As part of its contributions towards mitigating maternal and child deaths, the ‘Rotary Action Group for Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health (Rotary-RMCH) has trained selected Health Management Information Officers, Medical Record Officers and Monitoring and Evaluation Officers in Gombe state on using maternal, perinatal and child death surveillance and response electronic platform.
Country director of Rotary RMCH Professor Emmanuel Lufadeju during the closing of the training held at Layla Hotel in Gombe explained that the electronic platform is a government approved tool for data management hence the need to train information, records and evaluation officers on it for effective management of data on maternal and child deaths.
He said the policy is an initiative of the federal ministry of health supported by Rotary RMCH and other partners to reduce maternal, perinatal and child deaths by improving maternal and infant quality of care and data management system through using electronic platform.
“The web based electronic platform is designed to provide real time audit of maternal, perinatal and child mortality in the country. This data system has been established in all tertiary, secondary and upgraded primary healthcare centres throughout the nation and is fully operational.”, he said.
The country director also stated that the other objectives of the policy is to collect accurate data on all maternal, perinatal and child deaths in the country, determine the causes of deaths and contributing factors and review all maternal, perinatal and child deaths using facility records, verbal and social autopsies.
He added that the data would also be used to make evidence based recommendations for action to decrease the maternal mortality and morbidity.
