BY NAJIB SANI, GOMBE
As part of its intervention to groups and communities under the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) domesticated by the Gombe state government as ‘GO-CARES’, Gombe State Agency for Community and Social Development (CSDA) has presented nutritional complementary foods and production equipment to some women groups in the state.
Presenting the products to the beneficiaries at Bolari and Malam Inna communities in the state capital, the General Manager CSDA Mallam Haruna Ahmed Imam, explained that the program has provision for nutritional complementary foods and processing equipment among the interventions the CSDA is saddled to provide.
He said the intervention is meant to cushion the effects of COVID-19 particularly hunger and malnutrition among the populace, hence the intervention for the women that demanded for it.
According to him, the program is community demand driven appreciating the state governor, Inuwa Yahaya for his concern on the livelihood of the people of the state through the prompt release of funds to undertake the project.
“Under the second phase of the program, only two groups demanded for nutrition intervention; namely, Al’ansar Women Group Management Committee and A’immatulhudah Women Group Management Committee, where a total of 400 women were trained from both groups and presented with production equipment and 6,000 packs of nutritional complementary food, courtesy of the state government through the CSDA”, he noted.
The chairpersons of both groups Khadija Aliyu Lawan and Zainab Ahmed thanked the agency for the gesture saying it would go a long way in addressing malnutrition especially amongst women and children.
She assured of judicious use of the items and that the groups would equally step down the training to more women
