As the newly elected members of the national assembly assume office in June this year, a north east political pressure group known as ‘Northeast Youth Group For Good Governance’ has endorsed a member of the federal house of representatives from Borno State Honourable Mukhtar Aliyu Betara as the speaker of the 10th assembly.

The group made the endorsement on Tuesday while addressing a press conference after meeting with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State to seek the party’s support for Betara’s speakership.

Secretary of the group Khalid Ahmed Kumo who addressed the journalists said they arrived at the decision to endorse Betara as the next speaker after appraising all the re-elected members of the house and found him most qualified.

“Honourable Mukhtar Aliyu Betara has been representing his constituency for the past 16 years and still counting. This is a clear indication that he understands both the needs of the people, the essence of representation and the lawmaking process of the country.

“Honourable Mukhtar Aliyu Betara is someone who can unite and unify the house to work together for the progress of the country due to his immense experience in legislative affairs being the chairman of the house committee on the army, defense, appropriations beside membership of numerous standing committees. This reaffirms his experience and knowledge of the job”. He stated.

The group therefore appealed to the elected members of the house of representatives from different parties to consider Betara for speakership when the 10th assembly is inaugurated.
