NANS Demands Closure of University of Jos Amid Rising Insecurity

Our Editor
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Plateau State Government to immediately shut down the University of Jos.
The students body called on the state government to facilitate the safe evacuation of students following escalating insecurity in the area.
The demand was made in a press statement jointly issued by NANS and the Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Plateau State axis.
The student bodies expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation, describing it as “alarming and life-threatening.”
This development comes after the state government imposed a fresh 48-hour curfew, following renewed attacks in parts of the state shortly after an earlier curfew was relaxed.
According to the statement, signed by Comrade Bullah Nzaman Luka, students are currently living in fear, uncertainty, and danger, with the university environment no longer conducive for academic activities.
“Students currently live in fear, uncertainty, and danger, with the university community no longer safe for academic activities. The risk to lives is real and immediate,” the statement read.
NANS therefore urged the immediate closure of the institution to prevent further exposure of students to harm.
The association also called for the urgent deployment of adequate security personnel to restore order within the university and surrounding communities.
Additionally, the student body appealed to relevant authorities to arrange official transportation and provide security escorts to ensure the safe evacuation of students from the university environment to safer locations
