Insurgency: Borno Security Fund Partners FG Security Agency to tackle insurgency, Arms proliferation

The Borno State Security Trust Fund (BSSTF) has partnered with the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) in tackling insurgency and the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the state.
The partnership was strengthened in Maiduguri on Wednesday when Maj:- Gen. Abubakar Adamu (Rtd), the Northeast Zonal Director of NCCSALW paid the Executive Secretary, BSSTF a courtesy visit in furtherance of the mandate of agency to curb the proliferation of illicit Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in Nigeria.
Speaking during the visit, Alhaji Ali Shettima Marte, the Executive Secretary of BSSTF explained that the fund was established in 2020 with the aim of assisting those involved in the fight against insurgency in terms of allowance, transportation, donations, treatments among others.
He added that BSSTF serves as a stabilizing force for insurgency in Borno state and the North East and called for the assistance of NCCSALW in supporting the state government on its Borno Model Initiatives in other to reduce the excess boarding on the state.
“I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the Federal Government for siting the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, Northeast Zonal Centre Office in Borno State,” he said.
Responding, Maj:- Gen. Abubakar Adamu (Rtd) expressed sincere appreciation to BSSTF for its support, cooperation and working in synergy with security agencies in the state.
He also called for the support of BSSTF’s support in facilitating sensitization lectures for members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and community members to promote awareness on the dangers of illicit small arms and light leapons in other to discourage they possessions.
While emphasising that the Centre was empowered to prosecute anyone involved in the proliferation of illicit arms and light weapons, the Zonal Director assured the NCCSALW’s commitment in sustaining collaboration and partnership with BSSTF through collective effort to keep Borno State and the Northeast free of illicit Small Arms and Light Weapons.
He appreciate Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno state for his wonderful achievements in the state and reiterated commitment to continue to cooperate in the interest of peace and security.
