AFCON 2025: Nigeria Crush Mozambique to Book Quartre Final Spot
From Paul Orude Bauchi
Nigeria have secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a convincing victory over Mozambique in the round of 16.
Ademola Lookman opened the scoring in the first half after calmly finishing a well-worked move involving Akor Adams.
Victor Osimhen then took control of the contest, scoring once before the break and adding another shortly after the restart to put the Super Eagles firmly in charge.

Akor Adams later capped Nigeria’s dominant performance with his first goal of the tournament.
The Super Eagles will now prepare for a quarter-final showdown against either Algeria or DR Congo.
Calvin Bassey was booked late in the match, a caution that could prove costly as the tournament progresses. It was an avoidable moment at the end of an otherwise strong outing.

Nigeria delivered an impressive all-round performance, becoming the first team at this year’s AFCON to score four goals in a single match following Akor Adams’ strike.
The Super Eagles have now recorded 12 goals in four matches, placing them ahead of every other team in the competition, with only Senegal close behind on 10.
Defensively, however, there is still room for improvement.
Despite keeping a clean sheet in this game, Nigeria have conceded more goals than 11 other teams at the tournament, an area Eric Chelle’s side may need to address going forward.
