Bauchi Shuts All Schools Over Heightened Security Threats
From Paul Orude, Bauchi
The Bauchi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all primary, secondary, and tertiary schools across the state following rising security concerns threatening students and school communities.
In a public announcement issued on Monday, the Ministry of Education said the directive affects all institutions state-owned, Federal Government-owned, and private schools.
The decision, described as “difficult but necessary,” was reached after wide consultations with security agencies and key stakeholders.
Jalaludeen Usman, ANIPR, the Information and Public Relations Officer of the ministry, said the move became imperative in view of “overwhelming security concerns” currently affecting the state.
“The protection of our children remains our highest moral responsibility,” the statement read. “Every student in Bauchi State deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear.”
The government urged parents, guardians, and school proprietors to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as efforts are underway to restore safety and normalcy. It assured the public that schools will reopen once security agencies confirm that the environment is safe for learning.
Residents were also encouraged to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities. “If you see something, say something,” the announcement emphasized.
The government said further updates will be communicated as the situation unfolds.
