Police Vow to Hunt Killers of Widow Murdered on Farm in Bauchi

From Paul Orude, Bauchi
The Bauchi State Police Command has vowed to track down and prosecute those behind the gruesome murder of a widow, Mrs. Salome Benjamin, whose lifeless body was discovered on her farm in Kafin Tafawa, a community in Bauchi metropolis.
Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Mohammad Wakil, who spoke to Daily Sun on Monday, described the killing as a dastardly act that has shocked residents.
According to him, the police responded swiftly to a distress call, visited the scene of the crime, and evacuated the deceased’s body to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi.
“A postmortem examination will be carried out to unravel the exact circumstances of her death,” Wakil said.
He disclosed that preliminary findings at the scene suggested possible strangulation.
“During our visit to the scene, what we discovered was that within her neck there were signs of struggles, suggesting whether she was strangulated, because there was no sign of cutlass cuts or gunshot wounds. That was what we saw when we evacuated her body,” Wakil explained.
He said the police have revisited the crime scene on three different occasions in search of clues but are yet to record a breakthrough.
Wakil further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu, has directed that a discreet investigation be conducted into the matter to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice.
“The perpetrators of this dastardly act cannot run away from us. We are determined to see that they are arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” the PPRO vowed.
Speaking on the tragic incident, the deceased’s son, Simeon, recounted that his mother had left home around 8 a.m. on Saturday for the farm but never returned.
After hours of worry, family members and other farmers launched a search, only to discover her body naked on the farm.
The killing of the widow has thrown the Kafin Tafawa community into mourning, with residents calling on security agencies to step up efforts to bring her killers to justice.
