…Endorse Rev. Joshua Sunday for State Chairmanship

From Paul Orude Bauchi

The Bauchi State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has formally pledged its loyalty to the leadership of Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, following a recent Supreme Court judgment that affirmed her as the legitimate national chairperson of the party.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Rev. Joshua Sunday, erstwhile Zonal Vice Chairman of the Bauchi South Senatorial Zone and current chairmanship aspirant of the party in Bauchi State, described the judgment as “sacrosanct” and binding on all members of the Labour Party.

“We are a law-abiding party faithful, and the apex court of the land remains the last resort. In that light, we in the Labour Party and its excos from the ward level in Bauchi State fully pledge loyalty to the leadership of Sen. Esther Nenadi Usman,” Rev. Sunday declared.

The statement also reaffirmed the group’s unwavering loyalty to Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, describing him as the face of a “rescue mission” to redeem Nigeria from the “hopelessness, financial banditry, clannishness, impunity, unemployment, insecurity, and inflation” allegedly perpetuated under the APC-led administration over the last decade.

Rev. Sunday used the occasion to announce his intention to serve as Bauchi State chairman of the party, citing his records of success as a zonal vice chairman. He urged party executives across all 20 Local Government Areas of the state to rally behind him in repositioning the party as a formidable opposition platform.

The statement further called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to urgently recognize Sen. Esther Nenadi Usman as the interim chairperson of the Labour Party in line with the Supreme Court ruling.

“Our loyalty to Peter Obi is non-negotiable, and we will continue to offer our support and solidarity in every political adventure taken to restore Nigeria to its lost glory,” Rev. Sunday added.

He ended with a call for unity among party members, stressing that only through collective effort could the Labour Party in Bauchi State become a strong alternative political force from the grassroots to the national level.
