By Najib Sani, Gombe
The Gombe State government, through the Ministries of Finance and Economic Development, and Budget and Economic Planning, in collaboration with the Gombe State Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (ANGO) has taken a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
The step was via engagement of citizens and stakeholders to give feedback and input on the budget performance.
Our correspondent reports that the community feedback session on citizen accountability of the 2024 budget was held in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area recently.
The conveners explained that the event provided a platform for stakeholders to engage with government officials and provide input on the budget’s implementation.
In his remarks, the Secretary of ANGO, Malam Yahaya Mohammed, urged participants to actively contribute and follow up with relevant ministries to ensure proper implementation of the budget.
Musa Ahmad Mahdi, representing the Office of the Accountant General, highlighted the government’s prioritisation of critical sectors such as works, agriculture, health, and education in the 2024 budget.
He noted that this achievement aligns with the state’s strategic efforts to improve Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collection.
Some of the participants said the government’s engagement of citizens on budget accountability demonstrates its dedication to transparency and good governance
.
“This initiative will help ensure that the budget serves the needs of the people and promotes development in the state”, the said.
