WAEC Suspends 2025 WASSCE Results Over Technical Errors, Promises Correction in 24 Hours

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the temporary suspension of access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results following the discovery of technical glitches affecting key subjects.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its Public Affairs Department, WAEC disclosed that an internal review uncovered errors in the results for Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. The anomalies, it said, stemmed from the recent implementation of a new paper serialization system designed to curb examination malpractice.

According to the Council, the serialization innovation — already adopted by another national examination body — aligns with global best practices in assessment. However, its deployment led to unexpected bugs in the published results.

WAEC expressed deep regret over the situation and apologized to candidates and the public for the inconvenience caused. It assured that urgent steps are being taken to resolve the technical issues and restore full access to the results within 24 hours.

“WAEC sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused by this development. As a responsible and professional body, we are committed to fairness and transparency,” the statement read.

The Council has advised all candidates who had previously checked their results to revisit the result portal after 24 hours for updated and corrected outcomes.

WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to excellence and thanked the public for their patience and continued trust in its integrity.
