Niger Delta Group Cries Out Over Deplorable State of Warri-Sapele-Benin Road, Urges Tinubu’s Swift Action

A South-South-based sociopolitical organisation, the Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC), has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the worsening state of the Warri-Sapele-Benin Highway.

In an open letter signed by its leader, Bene Mamamu, and made available to journalists in Warri on Sunday, the group lamented the devastating effects of the road’s poor condition on businesses, trade, and human lives across the Niger Delta.

Describing the highway as a “critical artery for economic activities”, the NDYC said the dilapidated road has led to frequent accidents, supply chain disruptions, and the collapse of local enterprises.

> “Every day, we witness trucks toppling over or getting stuck in muddy, waterlogged craters. These are not just inconveniences; they are potential disasters in waiting,” the group warned.

They stressed that the Warri-Sapele-Benin road serves as a key transport corridor for agricultural produce, industrial goods, and essential commodities, linking multiple states and sustaining commercial movement in the region.

According to the NDYC, the neglect of this vital route is not only harming the economy but also placing lives at grave risk.

> “We are deeply concerned about the potential for explosions and deadly accidents on this road. It is high time the Federal Government stepped in,” the group said.

The council urged President Tinubu to direct immediate rehabilitation of the highway, adding that continued delay would only worsen the already fragile economic situation in the region.

“The prosperity of the Niger Delta is being eroded daily by the federal government’s inaction. We can no longer afford to watch in silence,” the statement concluded.
