NDIC Promotes Financial Literacy, Saving Culture Among Students In Gombe

By Najib Sani, Gombe
The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), has sensitised students of secondary schools in Gombe State on financial literacy and imbibing saving culture.
Speaking during the sensitisation event held at Education Resource Centre (ERC) in Gombe on Wednesday, the NDIC zonal comptroller in charge of Gombe, Bauchi and Plateau States, Ajiya Bazarma, said the sensitisation was part of the commemoration of this year’s World Financial Literacy Day.
He said the students were selected from 14 secondary schools in the state for the training, emphasising the importance of savings and investments on the Nigerian economy.
According to him, if the students imbibe saving culture, they could be entrepreneurs and contribute to reducing poverty and boosting the nation’s economy.

Bazarma also stressed that inculcating savings culture in young people fosters a future generation of entrepreneurs, investors and financial managers.
He tasked the students to engage in some occupations or petty businesses at home so they can generate money to save for greater investments.
Also speaking at the event, the state commissioner for education, Aishatu Maigari, represented by the Director Finance and Accounts (DFA) of the state ministry of education, Muhammadu Buhari, lauded NDIC for the sensitisation saying it would impart knowledge in students on investment and financial management.
He said the ministry prioritises training especially on entrepreneurship, vocational and business skills for students, pledging to continue to support any organisations in that regard.
In his remarks, the state President of All Nigerian Confederation of Principals (ANCOPS), Abubakar Sadiq Suleiman, appreciated NDIC’s sensitisation lecture in the state students saying it would instill financial discipline in them.
