Bauchi State Government in collaboration with Protexxa Incorporated, a Canadian cyber security firm, has launched the Cyber Nations Initiative, a cutting-edge cyber security training programme to train youth in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Usman Shehu Usman disclosed this in a Press release distributed to journalists in Bauchi, on Tuesday.
Usman explained that the project is to deliver the Cyber Nations Initiative Cybersecurity Training Programme to empower youths and professionals with globally relevant skills that promises to open doors to high-demand careers in the digital security landscape.
“The Cyber Nations Initiative is a Canada-based coalition of global leaders working together to educate and employ 100,000 African, Caribbean and Canadian learners within the global cyber security industry”. Usman said.
According to him, the Programme stems from a wide range of engagements embarked upon by the State Government from a strategic bilateral mission it undertook in Canada.
He explained that the training is designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and practical tools required to thrive in the rapidly growing cybersecurity sector.
The Commissioner said that training opportunities and career prospects abound as successful trainees would be prepared for careers in various key roles, including Cybersecurity, Analysts Monitoring systems to prevent and detect security breaches as well as Vulnerability Analysts – Identifying system weaknesses and potential risks. It also includes incident responders – handling and mitigating cybersecurity incidents and Cyber Literacy Coordinators – Leading awareness campaigns and cybersecurity training simulations.
Usman said that the programme is open to individuals passionate about cybersecurity, graduates or professionals seeking a career transition into cybersecurity as well as candidates interested in earning industry-recognized certifications.
He said that application requirements include that eligible applicants must be 18 years or older, be a citizen and resident of Bauchi State, have completed high school (post-secondary education is an added advantage) and demonstrate digital literacy skills.
The applicant must also possess an IT background or relevant experience, exhibit excellent English reading and writing skills, maintain a clear security record and be committed to a full-time schedule of at least 30 hours per week, he added.
