Gombe Govt Warns Against Vandalism, Theft Of Public Facilities

By Najib Sani, Gombe
Gombe State government has issued a stern warning to individuals vandalising culverts on newly constructed roads and stealing streetlights across the state.
Bappayo Samanja Maudo, Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority (GOSUPDA), gave the warning while addressing journalists in the state.
He lamented the rampant vandalism of streetlights, culverts for the purpose of making slabs, and illegal sand collection in the central development zone, particularly at BAP 4.
Maudo emphasised that perpetrators risk facing fines and prosecution, noting that the government spends significant resources repairing or replacing vandalised facilities with funds intended for other development programmes.
The GOSUPDA chairman also cautioned against ‘establishing markets’ on roads, citing traffic congestion and pollution concerns, warning that offenders are liable to have their commodities confiscated.
“So, we want people to understand that the governor is not happy. We will be on the neck of anybody that is trying to sabotage the efforts of this government. He will be dealt with severely.”, he cautioned.
