Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed deep sadness over the untimely death of Mrs Hafsat Adebayo, a female journalist, after a protracted illness.

Hafsat, a Correspondent of Daily Post, was a one-time treasurer of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Bauchi State council before her demise.

The mother of one passed away early Monday morning of February 10, 2025, and has been buried according to Islamic rites.

Reacting to the sad news, Governor Mohammed in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Bauchi by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Comrade Muktar Gidado, described the death of the female journalist as a huge loss.

Mohammed said Adebayo would be fondly remembered for her vital role in shaping public discourse and promoting the ideals of a free and responsible journalism.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, praying to God to grant them the strength to bear the loss.

The Governor also sympathised with the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Chapter and the Correspondents Chapel saying they have lost a valuable colleague and a shining example of handwork in the journalism profession.

“The Government and the good people of Bauchi State recognised and appreciate the sacrifices and contributions of journalists to nation-building,” the Governor said

“The loss of Hafsat Adebayo is not just a personal tragedy for her loved ones but a collective loss for the entire state and the Media community”

Governor Mohammed prayed to God to forgive her shortcomings and grant her eternal rest.
