Salary Fraud : Northern Assembly Urges Anti-Graft Agencies To Probe Ajaokuta Steel Coy
From Paul Orude Bauchi
The North East Youth Assembly (NEYA) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to investigate the Ajaokuta Steel Company over a salary fraud scandal.
The National President of North East Youth Assembly, Hamisu Mohammad Dass, made the call in a statement he issued, made available to Journalists weekend in Bauchi
Dass said the probe is necessary following a preliminary investigation into the company’s staff recruitment process.
“The investigation uncovered discrepancies in staff salaries, with employees receiving significantly lower amounts than stated in their appointment letters,” he said
The Assembly cited two cases of staff members recruited as “Graduate Manpower” who received monthly salaries of N18,000 instead of the stipulated N100,000 and GL 8/4 basis salary, respectively.
Dass expressed outrage over the findings and demanded an immediate probe by the EFCC and ICPC.
The Assembly urged the anti-graft agencies to demand appointment letters of staff members and compare them with their monthly earnings as shown in their respective bank statements.
They also demanded absolute disclosure of the partnership agreement between the company and consortia, warning against shady agreements.
Dassaid the assembly remains committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and will continue to fight against corruption, protecting the interests of the youth population.
