Bauchi Emirate Council has stripped Senator Shehu Buba Umar of his traditional title of ‘Majidadin Bauchi’.

He allegedly disrespected and humiliated Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed.

Senator Buba represents Bauchi South Senatorial District in the National Assembly on the platform of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

The decision was contained in a letter dated August 14, 2024, addressed to Senator Buba signed by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate Council’s secretary.

It said the withdrawal of the traditional title followed a meeting of the council on Wednesday chaired by the Emir of Bauchi.

The meeting deliberated on the Senator’s alleged misdemeanour and consequently resolved to derobe him as a traditional title holder of the emirate.

The council specifically accused Senator Umar of disrespecting and humiliating the Bauchi State governor, actions it said were at variance with the teachings and culture of Bauchi Emirate.

The Bauchi South Senator had in a recent chat with journalists accused Governor Bala Mohammed, who holds the title of Kauran Bauchi, of short-changing the people of Bauchi State with regards to some palliative items sent to the state by the APC-led federal government.

Senator Buba warned Governor Mohammed that President Tinubu was not his mate in politics.

He said Governor Mohammed was his political mate because they joined politics the same day through their leader former Bauchi State Governor Mallam Isa Yuguda.

He accused Governor Mohammed of being responsible for poverty, hunger and anger in the state for thereby changing the people of the state for not releasing the 70 trucks of guinea corn, 70 trucks of fertilizer, 20 trucks of rice donated to the people of the state by the Federal Government.

He added that the governor received N144bn in 2023 and N147bn from January to date from the federation account and he collected N300bn loan and awarded major contracts to himself.

The senator disclosed that the governor built the best house for himself with over 70 rooms which led to abject poverty in the state as people were being impoverished by PDP policies in Bauchi
