Breaking: Gombe Fixes April For Conduct Of LGs Election

BY NAJIB SANI ADAMU
The Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) has fixed April 27, 2024 for the conduct of chairmanship and counsellorship elections in the 11 local government areas and 114 wards of the state.
Chairman of the commission Sa’idu Shehu Awak announced this on Thursday while interacting with the leadership of political parties and election stakeholders in the state.
He said the commission gives interested political parties 101 days notice to prepare and present their candidates for chairmanship and counsellorship seats across the state.
“At this juncture, we wish to call on all political parties to ensure that they conduct their primaries within the time frame that will be given to them. We also wish to call on the leadership of all the political parties that intend to contest in this election to encourage their members and supporters to be law abiding and respectful in their conduct of relationship with fellow players of politics.
DAYLIGHT REPORTERS reports that the state organised local government councils polls only once in the last four years and caretaker committees had been running the councils since after the first election.
Our correspondent also observed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the major opposition party in the state was not present at the meeting.
