Bauchi: NUJ’s Correspondents’ Chapel seeks partnership with Army on nation building

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the  Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi  State Council has sought partnership with the

the 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi  towards building a greater Nigeria.

Chairman of the Chapel, Mallam Ahmed Mohammed, disclosed during a courtesy visit to the command  by the leadership of the Chapel to seek for collaboration and synergy between his members and  the Army.

Mallam Mohammed pointed out that the Correspondents’ chapel comprised of National and international media organisations working in the state.

He said that the members  of the Chapel were influential as far as journalism  practice was concern in the state.

The Chairman commended the Commander  of the 33 Artillery Brigade and his personnel for securing Bauchi State from bandits, kidnappers and other criminally minded persons in collaboration with the state government and other security organisations.

He opined that Journalists were major stakeholders in the security project of the country was proud of their efforts.

“As major stakeholders in the security project of Nigeria, we feel we should come and seek for more collaboration in order to contribute our own part to the successes you are recording”, Mohammed said.

Responding, the Commander 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi, Brigadier General E. Egbe, thanked the leadership  of the Chapel for the courtesy call.

Egbe harped on the need for a greater collaborattion  between journalists and the military towards fighting against fake news for the betterment of Nigeria.

The Commander expressed concerns that the internet space was always inundated with series of fake news from different media bloggers.

He noted that such scenario was not good for the security of the society.

“We work day-in day-out to secure the Communities but such good efforts and our achievements are mostly under reported,” he lamented .

‘We are not saying some anomalies should go unreported, but let it be verified and reported correctly.

“We are all partners in the Nigerian project and as such, journalists should do more of positive reports about the country than the negatives”

Brigadier General Egbe  advised the NUJ to put in place disciplinary mechanisms to ensure more sanity in the practice  of jounrjas well as curbing the menace of fake news.
