Bauchi: NDE commences nation-wide registration of artisans

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), in Bauchi state has commenced the registration of artisans across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking during the commencement of the exercise in Bauchi , the state Coordinator of NDE, Mr Lawan Yaya, disclosed that exercise was sequel to the directive of the Director General of NDE, Malam Nuhu Fikpo.
Yaya said, the DG gave the directive for a nationwide registration of artisans to avail the directorate the opportunity to understand the spreads of artisans across the country.
He said the decision was also to fashion out how best to plan for the artisans in creating business opportunities for them in their various lines of crafts.
“NDE wants to have a database for all the artisans’ nation-wide with a view to have a collaboration with the informal sector so that the NDE will link them up with our trainees so as to have seamless training and acquire skills.
“We are calling on the artisans to cooperate with the NDE and come out to register so as to assist our beneficiaries,” he said.
Speaking with Newsmen, the Secretary, Association of Vulcanizer of Nigeria, Bauchi state chapter, Mr Kayode Ojo, called on the Federal government to help his colleagues’ nationwide in the procurement of equipment for effective discharge of their profession.
“We are expecting something tangible to come out of this exercise. There are lots of our members that are very passionate about the job but they need assistance of the government to perform optimally because they have no capacity to purchase all the equipment needed.
“We are appealing to the NDE and the Federal government in particular to assist us with these equipment,” he pleaded.
