From Ayuba Hylakuri, Kaduna
A group, Ansaru has allegedly repelled over 200 armed bandits who were on motorcycles, wielding sophisticated weapons to attack Damari town of Kazage Ward in the Eastern part of Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A statement signed by the Chairman, Birnin Gwari Progressive Union (BEPU), Ishaq Usman Kasai on Friday disclosed that the attack took place around 5:00pm on Wednesday 13th July 2022.
The statement said the attack took place when members of the Ansaru group were right inside the town preaching to the locals.
“On hearing the sporadic gunshots from the bandits the Ansaru members moved towards them and started exchanging fire. They clashed for about an hour,” the statement read in parts.
It explained that the Ansaru members who were also heavily armed overpowered the bandits and latter retreated.
The statement said during the clash, some damages were made to the town including the burning of a shop, two vehicles, and a private hospital.
It revealed that two labourers were also killed by the armed bandits on their way from the farm while the bandits were running away to the forest.
The statement said the private hospital was burnt accidentally as a result of the fire spread from the second vehicle burnt nearby.
