A major crisis is brewing in the Bauchi State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, as the Zonal Secretary, Alhaji Babayo Liman, announced the suspension of the State acting Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Sani Shehu Sani Mallam indefinitely.

The Zonal Secretary ordered the acting Chairman to proceed on an indefinite suspension

Liman addressed a Press Conference at the NUJ Secretariat in Bauchi, alleging Sani Mallam’s lack of commitment to the ideals of the party, gross misconduct, and disrespect to National officers of the Party.

Liman, who was in company with some members of the party to announce the suspension explained that the Zonal office of the party after reviewing the allegations against the state acting Chairman, issued him a query.

He said Sani Mallam refused to collect the query, hence the zonal office had no option but to suspend him from office in order to move the party forward.

Reacting to his purported suspension the embattled acting Chairman Sani Mallam said he was not aware.

“They didn’t inform me, and it has nothing to do with me,” he said.

The Bauchi State Working Committee of NNPP has also rejected the suspension of its acting State chairman, Alhaji Sani Shehu Sani Mallam by the North East Zonal Secretary of the Party, Babayo Liman.

The State Legal Adviser of the Party, Barrister Mohammed Mohammed, said the action of the Zonal Secretary was unconstitutional, null and void.

“Liman and his cohorts didn’t follow due process and had no constitutional right to suspend any member of the executive,” the counsel argued.

“If any member of the State Executive Committee of the party is accused of any wrongdoing, a disciplinary committee must be set up to investigate, give the accused fair hearing by giving him the opportunity to defend himself and submit recommendations before taking any action and they didn’t do anything like that.

Since nothing was done to authenticate their action, it is null and void we the executives are with our chairman and we will not allow unconstitutional action of any member to cause confusion in the party.”

Barrister Mohammed affirmed that Sani Shehu Sanin Mallam remains the acting Chairman of NNPP in Bauchi State.
