The Federal Ministry of Education has applauded the Yobe State Government for its remarkable strides in transforming basic education, describing its efforts as a model for other states.

In a letter personally signed and addressed to Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, commended the state’s unwavering commitment to foundational learning, particularly for over 967,000 children of school age in the state.

“I write to convey commendation for Your Excellency’s unwavering commitment to advancing the basic education sector in Yobe State,” the Minister stated. “Your proactive approach is exemplary and reflects a sustained prioritisation of foundational education as a catalyst for development.”

Dr. Alausa also hailed Yobe’s prompt and full access of the 2024 Universal Basic Education matching grant, underscoring the government’s dedication to ensuring children acquire vital knowledge and skills for future success.

The commendation comes shortly after a historic feat by three Yobe schoolgirls — Nafisa Abdullah, Rukayya Muhammad Fema, and Khadija Kashim — who clinched the world championship at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London. The trio triumphed over 20,000 contestants from 69 countries.

In response, Governor Buni expressed appreciation for the recognition, pledging to use the commendation as motivation to raise the bar in education development across the state.

He further praised the contributions of teachers, parents, and other stakeholders, describing them as key partners in the successful implementation of the state’s education reform agenda.
