800 Youth, Women Empowered with Skills and Tools for Self-Reliance in Bauchi State

From Paul Orude Bauchi
As part of efforts to promote self-reliance and curb unemployment, the Bauchi State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government and the African Development Bank (AfDB), has empowered 800 youths and women with entrepreneurial skills and starter packs across the state.
The beneficiaries, drawn from all 20 local government areas of the state, were trained under the Supported Inclusive Basic Service Delivery Programme, which focuses on capacity building and economic empowerment.
At the official presentation ceremony held in Bauchi, Governor Bala Mohammed commended the initiative, describing it as a concrete step toward reducing youth restiveness and dependence on government jobs. He praised the Federal Government and AfDB for their continued partnership and urged sustained collaboration for broader impact.
“The goal is to create jobs and transform lives by equipping young people and women with practical skills to start their own businesses,” the governor said.
State Project Coordinator, Alhaji Garba Babaji Magaji, highlighted that the starter packs were carefully provided to enable beneficiaries to establish income-generating ventures within their communities. He acknowledged the beneficiaries’ commitment and discipline during the training period and encouraged them to put the equipment to good use.
The training covered 22 vocational skills, including aluminium fabrication, barbing, carpentry, electrical and solar installation, computer operations and maintenance, plumbing, photography and video production, water fitting, and GSM device repairs, among others.
The programme is expected to significantly contribute to local economic development and improve livelihoods across Bauchi State.
