Senator representing Gombe south senatorial district, Anthony Siyako Yaro, has taken a significant step towards enhancing the livelihoods of farmers in his constituency by organising a training programme on modern farming techniques.

During the opening of the training at Billiri and Kaltungo local governments, the senator represented by his associate, Honourable Hassan Ahmadu Haruna, explained that the training brought together 200 participants from Billiri, Balanga, Kaltungo, and Shongom local governments.

He said the aim is to equip farmers with the necessary skills to boost agricultural productivity and ensure food security in the zone.

A facilitator at the training, Dr Abubakar Wakili, from the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, Gombe State, noted that the workshop would cover modern farming methods especially in dry season farming, to improve crop yields and enhance food security.

“It will also include financial literacy, enabling participants to effectively source and manage resources for better farming operations. In addition to that, participants will receive training on cooperative education, empowering them to work together, access agricultural loans to improve their agricultural productivity.”, he stated.

Some participants at the training expressed their gratitude to Senator Yaro for the initiative.

Abubakar Yakubu Garba urged the federal government to complete the dam project in Balanga local government, which would greatly benefit irrigation farmers and livestock rearers while Blessing Elisha requested provision of fertiliser and farm inputs from the federal government.
