Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA| Disowns Fake Coordinator of Igbos in Northern Nigeria

From Paul Orude Bauchi
Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA|, led by Chief Kenneth O Okeugo JP, has disassociated itself from a group which claimed to be representing Igbos in the 19 northern states.
The disclaimer was contained in a press statement issued by IDA which was signed by the Hon. Donatus Nwugo, the Secretary-Generalof the Assembly.
“The attention of the Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA|, the umbrella body of Ndigbo in the Northern region of Nigeria. Has been drawn to a deceptive publication made by some unrecognized, self-centered persons,” the statement read in part.
“In the publication, the person claimed to be the coordinator of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the 19 northern states and the FCT.
“The Igbo Delegates Assembly, would have ignored the unguarded utterances of the notice-seeker, but for the avoidance of fraudulent benefits to such person to the detriment of the innocent public we have to put issues straight on the public domain.
“The Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA) have been the umbrella body of the Igbo in the nineteen northern states and Abuja, for 40 years.
“This is backed by a democratic structure that cuts across the three geo political zones in the north and a traceable and transparent succession method, spanning from the era of late Dr Louis Chukwuma–late Chief Inyama – Chief Nwogu and currently Chief Ken Okeugo. IDA
“In line with our constitution that holds our meetings across the three geo-political zones of the north every quarter of the year, with the last held in Katsina state (North-West) between Thursday 7th-Sunday 10th November, 2024.
“Just like our predecessor the Igbo Union west ill keep touch with our roots. Hence, we are the recognized affiliate of the Igbo Umbrella body Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
“It should be recalled that it was IDA that worked in consonance with the former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chief Nnia Nwodo during the unfortunate saga of the “Quit Notice” issued to our people by some youth in the north in 2017.
“It is unfortunate that some persons at this time still go about looking for ways to exploit and defraud the innocent public in the name of phantom organisations, especially at a time that Ohanaeze Ndigbo is gearing for the election of it’s a new leadership in January 2025.
“We ask the general public and Ohaneze Ndigbo World to ignore the publication”
“Just like our predecessor the igbo union we still keep in touch with our roots”
