NUJ Election: Yahaya Secures Landslide Victory, Emerges First President From North-East

Comrade Alhasan Yahaya has been elected the new President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the election held during the 8th National Triennial Delegate Conference of the Union at the Sam Mbakwe Hall, Owerri, Imo State.
Yahaya, a former Deputy National President who hails from Gombe State, becomes the first candidate from the North East Sub region to assume the leadership of the NUJ.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee Mike Ikeogwu disclosed that Alhassan Yahaya polled a total of 436 votes to defeat his close rivals Dele Atumbi and Garba Mohammed, who scored 97 and 39 votes respectively.
Metoric Post reports that the election that brought together 600 delegates from across the country.
Also elected unopposed was Deputy National President Abimbola Oyetunde, General Manger Radio Nigeria Brone FM , the first female to assume that leadership position.
Others are Victor Ndukew, Natonal Treasurer, Ronke Samo, reelected Vice President of B Zone (South West)
In his acceptance speech, the new NUJ president expressed gratitude to journalists nationwide for their support and pledged his commitment to the welfare of members.
Comrade Alhasan Yahaya promised to collaborate with stakeholders and uphold professionalism, emphasizing that “there is no victor, no vanquished.
He honored the immediate past NUJ president Dr Chris Isiguzo by decorating him as a fellow of the NUJ National council.
