Gov Mohammed Swears In Bauchi LG Chairmen
From Paul Orude Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed on Sunday sworn in the newly elected chairmen of the 20 local government areas of the state.
This followed Saturday’s local government election conducted by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) in the 20 LGAs in the state.
The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner in all the 20 LGAs.
Speaking shortly after the swearing in, Governor Mohammed urged the new chairmen to look in-ward and boost revenue generation in their respective LGAs.
“The councilors will be sworn in by the chairmen at the headquartres of the local governments,” he said.
Mohammed congratulated the PDP for winning the election in all the 20 LGAs.
“The result of the election is a testimony of trust and confidence of the people in our government,” he said.
“The victory is well-deserved considering the outstanding performance of our administration in uplifting the socio-economic wellbeing of our people through the provision of infrastructural facilities, social amenities and human capital development since we came into office for the second term a year ago”
Governor Mohammed recalled that the administration first conducted LG elections in 2020.
“Before then the last time LG elections were conducted in the state was in 2008,” he said.
“The fact that our administration has conducted LG election two terms in five years of existence is a testimony of our unwavering commitment to entrenching democracy at the grassroots”
The governor believed that the people should have a say in local government administration through elected councils comprising of chairmen and councilors.
“This is more so now that the LGs have been granted autonomy by the Supreme Court to run their affairs,” he said.
“It is for this reason that our party the PDP nominated and presented knowledgeable, experienced and competent candidates to vie for both chairmanship and councillorship position during the election yesterday (August 17).
“With the victory of our candidates I am confident that we will have the desired leadership to effectively administer our LG as autonomous third tier of government”
He reminded the newly sworn in chairmen to see their election to the position of responsibility as a challenge and as an opportunity to prove their worth.
“The electorate will be looking up to you to cater for their well-being through the provision of infrastructural facilities and social amenities,” he stated.
“With the granting of financial autonomy to LG the bar of performance for elective officials has been raised with the hope that the people will have a better deal in the new dispensation”
He hoped the new LG chairmen will not disappoint the people.
Governor Mohammed urged them to justify the confidence repose in them by the electorate by bringing in their wealth of knowledge and experience in discharge of their duties.
“By being closer to the people, LGs are required to provide good governance at the grassroots as enshrine in the first schedule of the constitution federal republic of Nigeria 1990 as,” he stated.
“I therefore urge the LG Council Chairmen to work hand in hand with their Deputies, management and their councilors and cooperate with the security agencies, traditional rulers, religious and party leaders as well as other stakeholders in their domain in order to impact positively on the lives of the people”
