Why We Renamed Pen Resource University To North Eastern University-Pro-Chancellor

BY NAJIB SANI, GOMBE

The Pro-Chancellor of Pen Resource University, a Gombe State based private university, Dr Sani Jauro has stated that the institution has been renamed to North Eastern University, Gombe because it has come of age and made name nationally.

He stated this in an interview with journalists after he flanked the Emir of Gombe Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar to unveil the new name for the university.

According to him, the university has at present about 1,000 students and four faculties offering 27 various degree programmes.

“It is on record that Pen Resource has carved a niche for itself in excellent academic, moral and ethical standards in the North-Eastern sub-region and the nation at large. And, to the glory of God, it has given birth to NORTH-EASTERN UNIVERSITY, GOMBE.

“At take-off, we decided to name the university in the image of its progenitor, the great Pen Resource Academy, Gombe for the nascent university to earn public confidence by leveraging the goodwill, integrity and excellence in standards that is meritoriously synonymous with the Academy. Thus, the name Pen Resource University, Gombe.

“Today, our university students and their parents or sponsors can attest to the fact that we have surpassed their expectations in terms of all standards.”, he explained.

Jauro added that apart from the degree programmes run by the university, they have established a Centre for African Medicinal Plants Research and included entrepreneurship and modern skills in their curriculum so that they can be self employed after graduation.
