Just In: Bauchi Speaker, Akuyam, Deputy Resigned As Suleiman Returns As Speaker

David Kuvie
In a dramatic move, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Babayo Mohammed Akuyam and Ahmed Abdullahi have resigned from their positions, paving the way for the return of former Speaker Abubakar Suleiman.
Akuyam, who is also the member representing Hardawa Constituency and Abdullahi from Dass constituency in the state Assembly, officially announced their resignation during plenary on Wednesday.
The outgoing speaker and his deputy announced their resignation saying the move was part of the agreement reached by the lawmakers to step down for Abubakar Sulaiman.
They appreciated their colleagues and other staff of the assembly for the support and cooperation given to them during their stewardship.
To this end, the house immediately re-elected Abubakar Y. Sulaiman while Jamilu Umaru Dahiru was also re-elected as the new Deputy Speaker.
In his acceptance, the re-elected speaker, Abubakar Y. Suleiman thanked Akuyam and Abdullahi for exhibiting a high sense of maturity while discharging their legislative duties.
Sulieman pledged his readiness to continue to provide effective legislation that will improve the lives of the citizenry.
It could be recalled that the appeal court had nullified the elections of four members of the state assembly last year giving a ruling for a re-run in some polling units in their various constituencies.
