The Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA) says condolence registers remain open  in all the 19 Northern States to pay respect to late former governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife.

This was disclosed by the President-General of the Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA), Chief Kenneth Okeugo, in an interview with journalists in Gombe on Friday.

Ezeife, aged 86, died at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, on Thursday, December 15, 2023 .

“Igbos all over the north are still mourning Chief Ezeife like any other person because he is an icon,” Okeugo said.

“Since his death we opened a register in all the state capitals in the 19 northern states for those who want to come and pay their last respect to a patriotic Igbo man who stood for the cause of Igbo, even at his personal cost.

Chief Okeugo, IDA President, North

“The register is still open for some time now and we urge our people to sign and pay their last respect”

President Okeugo said the news came through the President of Ndigbo in Abuja who called him to inform him of the passage of Chief Ezeife.

“We lost a great leader,” he said.

“We should emulate Chief Ezeife.

“This was a man who had worked hard for our country and the cause of Igbo.

“We pray to God to console his family for the irreparable loss.

“I urge all Igbo to walk in his footsteps and your community will never forget you.

“The age he died is ripe old age.

“We thank God for his life because he lived well “

The IDA President urged that, like Ezeife, leaders should render selfless service

“We should, as leaders take ourselves back and work for our people,” he argued.

“Now Ezeife is being celebrated all over the north.

“It is not because he had money but it is because anytime you called upon him if there was any issue he would answer and give you a solution.

“That is why we are condoling his family.

“That is why we are calling on our the leaders to put self and monetary gain last”

President Okeugo assured that Igbo in the north would participate actively the in the burial of the former Anambra governor
