Yobe: Former Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim Buried  in Saudi Arabia

The remains of the former governor of Yobe State, Senator (Dr) Bukar Abba Ibrahim, have been laid to rest in Saudi Arabia.

The funeral ceremony (Janazah), which was held at the Grand Mosque Masjid Al Haram took place Monday at Masjid Al Haram after Fajr prayers.

According to the Haramain approximately 20 deceased were preyed upon after the Fajr prayers at Masjid Al Haram.

The funeral prayers took place twice after the Fajr prayers.

Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who governed Yobe state from 1991-1992 and 1999-2007 before serving three terms in the Senate, passed away on February 4, 2023 while receiving medical treatment in Saudi Arabia, at the age of 75.

Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, has expressed deep sorrow over the loss and has taken steps to ensure that the late senator is honoured with a ceremonial state burial.

Buni spoke of the impact Bukar Abba had on the state and its people, describing his passing as a “huge loss.”

He called on the citizens of Yobe and friends of the state to offer prayers for the eternal repose of the Senator’s soul.

“The late senator’s death is not only a loss to Yobe but to Nigeria as a whole, as he was a key figure in the country’s political landscape for many years. His tenure as governor and senator was marked by efforts to improve the lives of his constituents and to foster stability and growth in the region,”.

He said condolences were to be received by Governor Buni at the Masjid Government House, Damaturu.

Buni has further directed that all aspects of the funeral and condolences to be taken over by the state government to accord the late governor a state burial and honour.
