Bauchi govt to sponsor 20,000 Students For 2024 WAEC, NECO – Commissioner
The Bauchi State government says would pay the registration fees of about 20,000 students sitting for the 2024 West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) in the state.
The state Commissioner for Education, Dr Jamila Dahiru stated this on Thursday at the Government Girls College (GGC), Bauchi while inspecting the conduct of the ongoing mock examination for the SS3 students in the state.
According to her, the mock examination was to prepare the students adequately for the forthcoming external examinations.
She said that previously, the state government had paid for only the WAEC examination for students but Gov. Bala Mohammed, in his generosity included the payment of NECO this time around.
Dahiru however, explained that all the SS3 students sitting for WAEC and NECO examinations in the state would be paid for but only those that excel in the mock examination would have their Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination paid for by the government.
“We conduct this mock examination so as to prepare them ahead of the forthcoming external examinations and it is to enable the state government to understand their readiness towards the conduct of the examination.
“We use the results to pay for their external examinations because it is the government that sponsors their examinations.
“Those that pass this mock examination, as a privilege and as a result of their efforts, their JAMB would be paid for free by the state government,” she said
