Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong will return from injury to captain Nigeria from the start in Nigeria’s AFCON 2023 round of 16 tie against Cameroon on Saturday night.
The central defender who scored the lone, winning goal for Nigeria in their victory over hosts Ivory Coast missed Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau through injury.
The 31-year-old will have assured lieutenant Calvin Bassey alongside him again for this crucial encounter against their fierce regional rivals.
The Fulham defender has made a starting berth his own since his stellar performance against Ivory Coast, and will look to repeat the trick a few hours from now.
Returning Zaidu Sanusi and Ola Aina complete a five-man defence for the Eagles against a Cameroon defence that has scored five times in three AFCON matches. Stanley Nwabali remains in goal.
Victor Osimhen, Nigeria’s only outfield scorer in the competition, leads the line again, supported by Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon.
Nigeria’s match against Cameroon will take place at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium.
Starting XI:
Stanley Nwabali; Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, William Troost-Ekong, Sanusi Zaidu; Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi; Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen
